About

Emily Mitchell

I am an abstract artist working from a studio in Broadway, in the Cotswolds. I make paintings in oil and acrylic. My work sells internationally and through galleries, and I usually have Freddie, my dachshund, for company in the studio.

Process

I am also an integrative psychotherapist, and have been working in psychology for more than thirteen years. The two are not separate practices. Both are about the structure beneath the surface: what is
held, what is hidden, and what becomes possible when it is brought into the light.

The therapy room taught me to sit with what is difficult rather than paint over it. The studio is where I learned to trust what comes through.

I read English Literature before I trained clinically, and words still find their way into the work, through titles drawnfrom myth, scripture and Dante.
