Original, oil and acrylic, abstract, contemporary painting.
Size: (W) 62 x (H) 92 x (D) 4cm (with frame).
Framed: Professionally framed. Cream and black painted wood with hanging equipment.
Inspiration: A fulcrum is the fixed point on which everything else balances and in this painting that balance is held under tension. A tilted black block, edged in gold, hangs above a heavier form that anchors it, while fine red construction lines run past the corners like a drawing that hasn't quite finished deciding where things belong. It came from a more settled place than much of my work, a time when I no longer needed to fill every part of the canvas and could trust the empty ground to hold its own. Built in black, warm cream and a thread of red, with scratched marks worked into the black and the golden ratio underneath, it is about the quiet point that keeps everything else in proportion.
Series: The Still Point. Paintings of balance held under tension: open cream ground, weighted black forms and the red line, placed on the proportions of the golden ratio, so that stillness is never quite static.
Fulcrum was made alongside Maat and the two can hang as a pair, black frame edges facing so that the space between them becomes the pivot.
A question to sit with: what holds your balance?
